Description
We are so incredibly AMPED to bring you our very first offering from India. (Cue confetti cannons!) While coffee from this farm is new to us, it’s been around since 1903 (!) spanning 173 acres in the Bababudangiri hill and mountain range in southwestern India. (Also, Wikipedia* says this area is nicknamed ‘coffee land’, so that’s a promising sign!!) This region, which sits at an ideal elevation for coffee growing in India, receives 90-100 inches of rain annually and has red, loamy soil — both ideal for coffee-growing conditions.
Ginimao Estate, an early member of the KaadKaapi collective, has pioneered innovative methods being the first in the Indian coffee industry to treat wastewater with biogas digester, an organic process that’s also sustainable. They also actively participate in wildlife conservation efforts by restricting the use of chemicals and maintaining a dense canopy cover that provides ideal habitats for the fauna of the ecologically diverse area to thrive. These actions are all part of the collective’s philosophy — a commitment to safeguarding the biodiversity of the area while producing exceptional coffee.
They do a fantastic job of combining traditional knowledge with modern techniques showing that coffee cultivation can be a positive force for both humans and the environment. The final product of all this work is a cup that’s sweet, creamy, and caramelly — one that feels familiar and unique at the same time.
